This letter is to talk about our September 2024 management efforts. I visited once in September on the 25th. Overall, things look relatively decent. At least it has cooled down some, not much, but some. We received a little rain early in the morning before I arrived. I had no issues getting through the park. We have had so little rain recently that a little bit did not soak into the soil. It just ran off. Despite the recent rain, I barely left any tire tracks driving through the park area. We received a few inches up north, but the lake level was approximately 2 feet low. It takes a little time, a day or two, for the runoff to stop flowing and for benefits to be seen, but I doubt we will see much benefit from this round of precipitation.
This letter is to discuss our July 2024 management efforts. I came out once in July on the 24th. Weather patterns have been pretty stable. It has been hot, but at least so far, the heat has primarily been below 100 F. It is summer in Texas, so we shouldn’t expect anything less. Water and the wildlife using it are entering what I call maintenance mode. Everything is just trying to maintain and survive.
This letter is about our June 2024 management efforts. I came out once in June, on the 26th. Just like that, it is now Summer. Remember when it was raining almost every day? Now it’s just hot outside. Minus the occasional pop-up shower, we will be in it until October. Such is the way seasons change in Texas.
On the 26th, the lake level was down with all the hot, dry weather we have experienced recently. I estimate it was about a foot lower than this time last month. The water temperature averaged 85 F. This slightly increased over the previous month, but it still needs to be warmer.
I expect that to change next month. Alkalinity was 130. Still holding reasonably consistent. We prefer alkalinity over 100, which is pretty hard water. Anything over 100, and we are happy with that. pH…
This letter is to talk about our May 2024 management efforts. I came out once in May on the 29th. Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day.
It’s always tricky when we get this much water. On the one hand, I will never complain about the rain. We all need it. Maybe it would be okay if it was spread out a little. It also did not include high, damaging winds. There are even trees down and damaged in the park area. I had to use the boat ramp to launch my boat this time.
