Greetings, Lake Vilbig Residents

June 28, 2014

This letter is about our June 2024 management efforts. I came out once in June, on the 26th. Just like that, it is now Summer. Remember when it was raining almost every day? Now it’s just hot outside. Minus the occasional pop-up shower, we will be in it until October. Such is the way seasons change in Texas.

On the 26th, the lake level was down with all the hot, dry weather we have experienced recently. I estimate it was about a foot lower than this time last month. The water temperature averaged 85 F. This slightly increased over the previous month, but it still needs to be warmer.

I expect that to change next month. Alkalinity was 130. Still holding reasonably consistent. We prefer alkalinity over 100, which is pretty hard water. Anything over 100, and we are happy with that. pH was still high at 8.5. I saw many more birds this month than last month—nothing out of the ordinary, primarily ducks, geese, and herons. The water looked good, but it was just off-muddy, stained color. The depth readings were around 20 inches, 1and most of the lack of depth readings was just because of the excess sediment in the water.

The water is dirty, and the sediment will take some time to settle naturally. I would bet that, provided the rain stops, it will be more explicit by the next visit.

Other than that, everything looks great as we continue through spring.

Summer is officially here, but we will get through it.

Thanks,
